German law on the control of suppliers important for companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina

27.03.2023

On January 1 of this year, Germany’s new Law on Supply Chain Due Diligence came into force. As part of the Green Recovery component of the Covid-19 Investment Response project, which GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German government, on March 27, the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH will organize the seminar “The new German supply chain law and its consequences for export-oriented companies in BiH“.

Representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises, competent institutions and chambers of commerce in Bosnia and Herzegovina will discuss the topic of the new German Law on Supply Chain Due Diligence and further European legislative developments that have consequences for export-oriented companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of the seminar is to explain what requirements export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in BiH will have with the introduction of this law. Although this law is only mandatory for German companies with more than 3,000 employees, it indirectly affects all export-oriented companies from BiH that are part of the supply chain of an affected German company.

During the seminar, the German expert Philipp Poferl, representative of the consulting company Arqum GmbH, will explain how companies will have to comply with this law and how they will adjust their operations to the new conditions, including standards and certification.

Domestic institutions responsible for supporting the development of SMEs in BiH are two entity ministries, the FBiH Ministry of Development, Entrepreneurship and Crafts, and the Ministry of Economy and Entrepreneurship of the Republika Srpska. In the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy there are the entity funds, the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency of the RS.

Green Recovery is a component of the Covid-19 Investment Response project, which GIZ is implementing on behalf of the German government. It also includes the EU4Business Recovery project that provides support to BiH in mitigating the economic consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, co-financed by the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany.
