Emerus d.o.o. is a renowned European manufacturer of extruded aluminium profiles intended for various industries. Their production facility, located on 15,000 square meters in Široki Brijeg, successfully extrudes high-quality aluminium profiles for more than 15 years.
From the very beginning, Emerus has adapted to the dynamic needs of the market, changing the plant and internal organization in accordance with modern market trends.
In accordance with the aforementioned business policy, the company joined the Green Recovery component of the “COVID-19 Investment Response” project, which was funded by the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of the Federal Republic of Germany and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), applying energy and resource efficiency measures and performing certifications in the field of environmental protection and occupational safety.
At the beginning of the project implementation, the company employed less than 200 workers, and during the implementation of project activities, it doubled its capacities. Thus, today it employs 280 workers, and 85% of its production is successfully exported to foreign markets.
“With the help of the German government through GIZ, we managed to expand our production much earlier than we would have otherwise. The financial assistance and support we received really meant a lot to us, and encouraged us to continue with our business development, but also with the green transition”, said Kristina Naletilić, marketing manager.
As part of the project’s activities, Emerus has made significant strides towards more efficient and cleaner production by purchasing a new shot blasting machine. With this investment in new technologies, the wet cleaning process of aluminium profile extrusion moulds was changed.
Also, the company made a significant step towards the sustainability of production by installing their own solar power plant with a power output of 1 MW. In this way, the production of clean energy was increased and at the same time the energy independence of the company was strengthened.
Within the project activities, the company also underwent the ISO certification procedure.
“In the future, we plan to continue introducing new green practices and green technologies. We must adapt to the very dynamic requirements of the market, as well as the increasingly strict regulations of the European Union. These regulations include, among other things, CBAM, ESG reporting, ensuring sustainable supply chains and so on”, pointed out Monika Papić, head of environmental protection at this company.
By applying green business models, Emerus is an example of how to improve business and competitiveness in the market by following modern trends, and at the same time contribute to the preservation of the environment and the creation of new jobs.
